What is the Athens Festival? A great celebration that has lasted 56 summers, and that has hosted some of the leading lights of theatre, music and dance.

The idea for the construction of a large cultural and congress center in Komotini began in the mid-1980s. Finally, a study by the well-known architect Nikos Valsamakis was carried out but the construction was delayed due to a lack of funding.
The historical Apollon Theater is one of the most important sights of Syros, as it is an emblem of the cultural heritage of Ermoupolis. It was created in 1864 by the Italian architect Pietro Sampo, who inspired his design from 4 impressive Italian models including the Milan staircase and since then decorates the heart of the capital Ermoupolis. The Apollon Theater Curtain opened with an Italian company that, among other performances, staged the famous Italian opera Traviata.
“The Cybeli Institute is a Cultural Institution that explores the theatrical history and the historical fortunes of Hellenism, it highlights concurrent processes in the European and international landscape, creates cultural synergies and promotes the cultural decentralization focusing on the Aegean, having as starting point the adventure of a large family which marked the theater, the politics and the arts of the Greek 20th century.
Opera, operetta, dance, ballet and recitals of well-known artists are the main sector of the high quality producers offered by the Greek National Opera to Greek and foreign audiences. The National Theatre on Agiou Konstantinou street, near the Omonia square, was built to meet the city’s need for a new theatre. Designed by Hernst Ziller and constructed from 1891 to 1901, the project was initiated by King Georg I.
The Athens Gasworks factory, or “Gazi” as most people call it, is on the right side of Pireos Street, immediately past the entrance to Iera Odos. Built around 1860, the first plant was quite small and was owned by businessman, Frangiskos Feraldis. The small plant expanded rapidly, becoming an immense industrial complex.

In 2012 took place the 18th Kalamata International Dance Festival, which is organized every summer by the International Dance Centre. The Festival is a permanent, recognised cultural institution, both in Greece and abroad, and it is one of the Prefecture of Messinia’s most important events.
