Weather in New York

The city experiences a similar weather pattern to many northern hemisphere cites. A basic yardstick for New York weather is very cold winters and hot summers. The relative extremes of weather in New York help make it the exciting destination it is. Hot summer months bring residents out onto the streets to enjoy the warm air giving a real sense of community whilst wintertime in New York, especially at Christmas, can be quite magical. Christmas is taken very seriously and the lights and decorations in Manhattan are arguably worth a trip on their own. These factors make New York the perfect year round destination. In the summer months you can expect up to 10 hours or sunshine a day in New York. July, August and September enjoy an average temperature in the high 20Cs with the occasional cooling shower of rain. Warm days are ideal for exploring attractions such as central park and the beach at Coney Island. Although the subway can get quite hot, as in most places in America, air conditioning is everywhere so popping into shops is a great way to cool down. The Atlantic Ocean is never far away and beaches and water sports can be found on Long Island, a short hop from Manhattan.
