Museums

Throughout Greece, there are now more than 200 state-owned or supervised by the Ministry of Culture and 107 non-public museums. There is the opportunity to admire the unique achievements of art and science and discover the footprints over 6000 years history. The Greek museums divided into the following categories:

Days of Operation

Most of the state museums operate every day of the week except Monday. Also closed on the following public holidays: January 1, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, May 1st, Christmas (December 25 & December 26). With regard to other public holidays, please contact the museum you wish to visit in order to check if it works on that day.
Taking photos or videosGenerally allowed to take photographs and videos, provided they do not use a tripod or flash. However, it is advisable to contact previously with the contact of the museum in order to check whether you pay an extra fee or require a special permit for photographing and filming.
